ReplyDeleteI am crushed by the defeat of isocitrate dehydrogenase. IDH had a big year - recurrent somatic mutations discovered in acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes, prognostic significance defined and distinguished from that in gliomas, 2HG pathway outlined, interaction with TET2, and a start-up biotech designing a drug. I had IDH in the Final Four. Anthrax is like Coach K - because the refs fear it, it gets all the calls. At least dicer made it through - I had them advancing pretty far.
ReplyDeleteThe odds were stacked against IDH, as it was not a student-generated page. I needed a full bracket of 64, but I also wanted student pages to take center stage, so I encouraged the voters to give the student pages the benefit of the doubt...and only student pages made it out of the first round.
